Based on the original Marx Brothers Broadway hit and film classic, this contemporary adaptation of Animal Crackers is an outrageous musical comedy. When a celebrated painting goes missing from Mrs. Rittenhouse's fancy house party in honor of African explorer Captain Spaulding, her guests set out to find the thief in a series of madcap antics, exploits and musical numbers, including "Three Little Words," "I Wanna Be Loved by You," and others.

Animal Crackers opened on Broadway on October 23, 1928 at the original 44th Street Theatre, and ran for 191 performances and then toured. The 44th Street Theater was demolished in 1945. The production was staged by Oscar Eagle and starred the four Marx Brothers and Margaret Dumont and was their second Broadway hit. Hermes Pan appeared as a chorus boy.
