He also founded the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz in honor of his father.

Perhaps that is when his path first crossed that of up and coming vocalist Rachael Price -- she was the youngest competitor in the 2004 Institute competition, an event that previously brought Jane Monheit and Joshua Redman into the spotlight.
